Welcome to SM Nutrition!

When I started this business, I put a lot of thought into why I was doing it.  There are a lot of reasons, but when it comes right down it, I just really want to help people feel better and to value themselves.

For me, it took 40+ years to truly value who I am as a person.  Like many of us, my childhood was very dysfunctional.  I’m not going to go into a lot of detail here, but I had a childhood that was full of neglect and abuse.  Because of this, I was filled with a strong sense of shame and mostly all I wanted to do was hide from the world.  I was painfully quiet and shy…I didn’t want anyone to know who I was or how I was really feeling on the inside.  After many years of chronic anxiety and depression, I finally decided that things had to change.  I just couldn’t continue living like that anymore!  So, at the age of 50, I decided to get healthy, both physically and mentally.  It was time for me to own my stuff! I hired an amazing trainer who helped me become accountable for my fitness and nutrition (I was never able to sustain it on my own before).  I had already been working with a wonderful therapist for many years to work through my feelings and reactions to the trauma I experienced as a child, but finally decided that I’d be honest with her and myself (I was a pro at acting the way and saying the things I thought people wanted to hear so that they thought I was fine).  After a couple of years of working hard and digging deep, both physically and mentally, I finally reached a point where I can say I finally value myself and I’m living the life that I want to live as I’m no longer afraid to be who I am.  And who I am is someone who wants to help others in the best way I know how which is through my passion of feeding people healthy food.

The main thing that I’m trying say is that by taking care of yourself which includes taking care of your body through diet and exercise can lead to great things in your life…things that you never knew could be possible.  I’m living proof of that!

Here’s a quote that a good friend sent to me recently, that I completely believe in:

“The beauty of being in good shape is that you earned it.  It cannot be handed down like a business or wealth.  No one puts in the work except you.  It’s the ultimate sign of self-respect.”

I hope that you too get to experience this type of self-respect!
